While this includes most of the same basic services you’d get from a traditional real estate agent, note that this package doesn’t include agent-assisted home showings or any marketing help that you would receive from a traditional realtor who offered a full service experience. However, if you opt for Homie’s $10,000 full service package, you get all of the above, plus agent-guided open houses and enhanced real estate marketing services, including social media marketing and a 3D home tour.
This is an important difference. If you’re in a hot real estate market, and your home is desirable enough that it sells itself, you won’t need any full service marketing help from your agent. On the other hand, if you have a unique property or are in a lukewarm real estate market, you may end up feeling abandoned by your Homie agent, as evidenced by some Homie reviews.

❌ Poor grasp of market conditions
Multiple negative Homie real estate reviews described how Homie agents initially mispriced their home, causing it to sit on the market for an extended period of time. Their Homie agents then instructed them to lower the price— multiple times, in this case— in an attempt to find a buyer. While conventional real estate agents may occasionally have to reduce a listing’s price, this sounds more like inexperienced agents who failed to find accurate comps.
Homie’s agent came out to look at our property and told us based on the market/comps we should list for what I thought was a high price. But the market was hot and I trusted them. We had only a couple showings for the 6 month listing which should have been an indication that it was overpriced. After a couple months I reduced the price by 10%, which was in the hundreds of thousands. At the very end of our contract, the agent texted me and told me I needed to lower the price of my house another 25% … which would have made the reduction just over a third of the original professionally proposed price.

How Homie works
What to expect as a seller
Homie offers a fairly standard, if barebones, flat fee service package for sellers that includes pricing assistance, professional photos, an MLS listing, a yard sign and lockbox for showings, and an appointment managing app. It doesn’t include agent-assisted open houses or significant real estate marketing help.
Once you fill out an online form, a Homie agent gets in touch with you and arranges for professional real estate photos to be taken of your home. Homie will then list your home on the MLS, Zillow, and other platforms, and send over a yard sign and keybox. From this point on, any marketing or open houses are the seller’s responsibility.
Homie agents are salaried and carry a heavy client load; they communicate with home sellers primarily by phone, email, or text, and clients typically get little to no face time with their Homie agents. This is the main difference between a Homie agent and a traditional agent. It’s unclear if a Homie real estate agent will show up on the day of closing, though they may attend a remote session. Sellers will pay Homie their $5,000 flat fee at closing.
What to expect as a buyer
A Homie buyer can take advantage of the Homie buyer rebate program, which offers up to 25% of the buyer’s agent commission, applied to their closing costs— but only if they also use Homie’s in-house title and mortgage services.
Buyers who want to purchase through a Homie agent can schedule showings through Homie’s website, or the Homie app, and will be accompanied by Homie partner agents throughout the process.
Homie news and updates
Founded in 2015, Homie received millions of dollars from investors through several rounds of funding. However, the company seems to have hit significant turbulence in recent months.
After an April 2024 Salt Lake Tribune article1 alleged that Homie was “calling it quits,” the company fired back by clarifying that it was only converting its salaried agents to independent contractors. This comes after several rounds of layoffs and the departure of its CEO.
But while the company once employed hundreds of traditional agents, and was hiring 1,000 more agents2 as recently as 2021, it currently employs only 18 agents as contractors, plus “a handful” of salaried agents. It’s unclear whether the company is merely contracting in a rough market, or is about to close its doors permanently— but sellers who want to take advantage of Homie’s flat fee model should probably do so quickly, while they still have the chance.
Bottom line: Should I use Homie?
Homie is a legitimate real estate brokerage that does offer some advantages over a traditional agent. But like a lot of discount real estate brokers, not all sellers will benefit equally. Sellers who have a high-priced home that doesn’t need much marketing help could save thousands of dollars of realtor fees with Homie’s flat fee model, compared to working with a conventional real estate agent.
However, sellers who want or need a personalized real estate experience from their agent, or have a more modestly-priced home, may not get what they want out of a Homie experience.
